Upload CSV to table

Nov 29, 2010 at 11:21 AM

Hi,

I am using 4.0.0.7 and I am having trouble with uploading a CSV to a table. It does not make the columns from the first row.

Should the CSV look specific?

This is described in the documentation at Help > User Guide, but in a nutshell:

The header row should list your field names, comma-separated. The first 3 fields should be named PartitionKey,RowKey,Timestamp. A field name can be just a name (such as, Amount) or a name:type (such as, Amount:double). For example:

PartitionKey,RowKey,Timestamp,Amount:double,Date:datetime,Debut:bool,Memo,To,Code:int
2010.10,1,10/22/2010 11:28:10 PM,130.53,"1/1/2010 12:00:00 AM",False,Electricity,"California Edison",7
2010.10,2,10/22/2010 11:55:40 PM,130.53,"1/1/2010 12:00:00 AM",False,Groceries,VONS,8
2010.10,3,10/22/2010 6:23:25 AM,200,"1/1/2010 12:00:00 AM",False,Groceries,"Stater Bros.",3
2010.10,4,10/22/2010 6:23:34 AM,17.99,"10/20/2010 12:00:00 AM",True,Sundries,CVS,1

Wouldn't it be nice if the first three columns are added automatically?
Otherwise you need a tool to add this to the export.

I'll think about what we can do in terms of intelligent defaults, but be aware that using good values for PartitionKey and RowKey are critical to your table's query performance. Auto-generating values for those fields isn't usually wise if that's what you're suggesting.
