Containers & Blobs

• Create, View, Copy, Rename, Delete Containers
• Create, View, Copy, Rename, Delete, Upload, Download Blobs

Blobs can be viewed as images, video, or text. Blob properties can be viewed/editied.

Queues & Messages

• Create, View, Copy, Rename, Delete Queues
• Create, View, Pop, Clear, Upload, Download Messages

Message content and properties can be viewed.

Tables & Entities

• Create, View, Copy, Rename, Delete Tables
• Create, Edit, Copy, Rename, Delete, Upload, Download Entities

Entities can be viewed and edited.

Highlights of version 4:

• Better Code. Versions 1-3 of Azure Storage Explorer pre-dated the commercial Azure launch and there was no formal Storage Client library. Code from the SDK samples was used, which caused the source code base to be huge and complex. In version 4 we are using the .NET StorageClient library and the code is compact and well-organized. The source code is open and is part of this CodePlex project.
• Newer storage feature support. Support has been added for newer features such as blob root containers.
• Direct data entry and editing of blobs, messages, and entities.
• Improved UI. The new WPF-based UI is cleaner, and supports opening multiple storage acounts at the same in tab views. The Mode-View-ViewModel pattern is used.
• Free. Azure Storage Explorer remains a free community donation.

Azure Storage Explorer, Version 4 Beta 1 (October 2010)

Azure Storage Explorer is a useful GUI tool for inspecting and altering the data in your Windows Azure Storage storage projects including the logs of your cloud-hosted applications.

All 3 types of cloud storage can be viewed and edited: blobs, queues, and tables.

• Containers and blobs can be viewed, edited, created, copied, renamed, deleted, uploaded, and downloaded.
• Queues and messages can be viewed, created, copied, deleted, uploaded and dowloaded.
• Tables and entities can be viewed, edited, created copied, renamed, deleted, uploaded and downloaded as CSV files.

Azure Storage Explorer, Version 3.0 Beta 1 (October 2009)

Azure Storage Explorer is a useful GUI tool for inspecting and altering the data in your Azure cloud storage projects including the logs of your cloud-hosted applications. All three types of cloud storage can be viewed: blobs, queues, and tables.
You can also create or delete blob/queue/table containers and items. Text blobs can be edited and all data types can be imported/exported between the cloud and local files. Table records can be imported/exported between the cloud and spreadsheet CSV files.

Azure Storage Explorer, Version 2.1 (May 2009)

Viewing Blob Containers and Items

You can see what your blob containers are, the items in each container, and view the contents of individual blob items.

Blob items can be viewed as text, bytes, or images.

Viewing Queues and Messages

You can see what your queues are, list up to 32 peeked messages from each queue, and view the contents of individual queue messages. Queue messages can be viewed as text or bytes.

Viewing Tables and Entities

You can see what your tables are, list the entities in each table, and view the contents of an individual entity as text, bytes, or entity properties.

View Your Application Logs

Since Azure hosted application logs are copied to cloud storage, Azure Storage Explorer is a convenient way to view your logs.

Work with Multiple Accounts

You can work with up to 10 storage projects in Azure Storage Explorer, including your local developer storage. Endpoints, account names, and keys can be specified in the tool's configuration file or you can configure them directly in the tool as shown below (administrator privileges are needed to save changes).

Summary of New Features in Version 2.0

The most current release of Azure Storage Explorer, version 2.0, has several improvements over the original version:

1. The UI is WPF-based and has Outlook-style navigation.
2. Multiple storage accounts are supported, and you can change your storage account details directly in the tool.
3. . In addition to text and byte views of items, blob items that are pictures can be viewed as images.

Azure Storage Explorer 2.0 does not presently allow you to act on storage items. This capability is being considered for a future update.
